Written : Monday 29th Jun 26Wednesday 4th June – A well attended Touch session saw two England Touch coaches come to Stoke Park to deliver an introductory session to our u12s and u13s Thanks to their enthusiasm and energy our girls and boys lasted a mammoth 2hr session filled with fun drills and games, a fully mixed round of matches and a massive number of smiling faces! Thanks to the high-quality coaching, it was clear to see from the sidelines that the kids quickly picked up not only the fundamentals of Touch, but started to implement them with no small amount of skill. Feedback from a considerable number of parents echoed my own sentiments that this was a superb session, professionally planned and executed and that their kids, my own included, couldn’t stop talking about it afterwards!
The Guildfordian’s Touch section is really keen to expand this version of our wonderful game and I’m hopeful that this has lit a fire under a few kids. It is an excellent alternative for those keen to keep playing but not wanting full contact for any reason, as well as a great way to keep fit for those playing all forms of rugby and beyond. There’s a great social aspect too, the section being particularly approachable and welcoming.
Currently Touch is open to those aged 14 and over. If you are interested, please just turn up on a Monday or Wednesday. All levels are welcome and all sessions are filled with lots of game time, whether you want to be competitive or take a more social approach!
There are a number of Touch tournaments throughout the summer, and the club is hopeful that some junior teams can put together in the future for those at u12-u14 level as well.
There is a women’s only option available (please contact chairpersons directly)
This taster session was only possible thanks to the efforts of our co-Chair, Rafaelle Baby. She and co-Chair Rose Tongue would love to hear from you if you want to start Touch and are keen to grow the section.
Contact and further details can be found on the website, including training days/times/location throughout the year.
Don’t be shy, get in(to) Touch!
