Written : Monday 29th Jun 26On the 20th June, with temperatures hitting close to 30deg.C, 10 teams from the UK, France and Belgium took part in the second ASUB Rugby Waterloo Walking Rugby Tournament.
The hosts did everyone proud - excellent facilities and organisation and a thoroughly welcoming atmosphere, plus excellent food and plenty of Belgian beer!
The event was also supporting the Nicolas Gigot Foundation, committed to giving a voice to people who are deprived of speech through innovative communication tools.
Guildfordians won the trophy in a tight final against Burgess Hill with Old Reigatians finishing third. However, the real winners were the camaraderie, fun and friendships that everyone made.
Worth noting that tries were scored by everyone in the 9 man Guildfordians squad, which is a great achievement in itself. Sadly I can't remember who got the winning try in the final as he was very quiet and gracious about the whole thing (NOT!) - perhaps it was the comfortable cool, relaxing sleep Lance had the night before that gave him the energy to burst down the wing for the winning try!
A huge thanks to ASUB Rugby Waterloo for their hospitality, the referees, volunteers, and officials present, whose support and involvement were essential to the success of the event.
