Written : Saturday 15th Mar 25The sun shone on the U15s Quarter Final clash with Camberley at Watchetts Rec on Sunday, but there was no brightness for Guildfordians in the result as the home side came away with the win.
Camberley have strengthened their squad after merging with Farnborough U15s at the start of the season and the cohesion they have been building is clearly paying off. Both sides started strongly with the game ebbing and flowing evenly between the 2 teams, but by mid way through the first half, Camberley had scored 2 unconverted tries. Never a squad to give up so early, a quick thinking penalty from Guildfordians captain George V saw Devon S drive over the line with his strength and determination, and the score at half time was more reflective at 10-5.
Both teams continued to tackle with ferocity in the 2nd half and Camberley clearly marked their men as they quashed any advances by Guildfordians and scored 3 unanswered tries to increase their score to 29. It looked like the game had completely run away from the visitors, but a resurgence in the final 10 minutes saw Eddie M score 2 stunning tries down the wing to bring their tally to 17.
Too little, too late could well be the mantra for this game, but a disappointed team go into the Cup Play-Offs against Old Ruts & Kings in a fortnight with the same determination they always have to play well as a group. In the meantime, a friendly against Chobham awaits them this Sunday at Stoke Park.
