Written : Friday 14th Mar 25On Sunday 2 March our Minis festival took place where we welcomed 125 teams, 1200 children and over 2500 people from teams across the South of England as far as Gosport and Worthing. It was great that building on our Autumn festival, we had a few of the teams return who hadn’t been previously. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with teams already asking to sign up for our September festival.
The bright, sunny day led the way and the children all stood up and played their hearts out for their clubs, while then trying to persuade
a parent / guardian to buy them a pizza / burger / ice cream or all at once! Indeed, one U11 Guildfordians team got a round of applause as
they left the pitch from the audience.
These events are only a success due to all the volunteers who give up time and resources so a massive thank you to all the parents who
worked on the car parks or Oasis and in particular Sam Nield who set up our sound and light systems (Britney Spears blasting across Stoke
Park whilst the Oasis is being set up is something many of the volunteers won’t forget for a while).
A number of particular call outs – Liz Harris for co-ordinating everything and working behind the scenes to make it as smooth as
possible for our visiting guests, Louise Springthorpe who was still up at 1am on Saturday rewriting fixtures following a few last minute
additions and then back in the club for 9 to sort medals, Luke Potts for cooking all day.
Many thanks,
David Smith
